That evening Jesus told His disciples to cross to the other side of the Sea of Galilee. Leaving the crowd, they took Him along in the boat. A furious squall arose, and the waves broke over the boat so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus, meanwhile, was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The terrified disciples woke Him, crying out to ask whether He did not care that they were about to drown. Jesus got up, rebuked the wind, and said to the waves, Peace, be still. The wind died down, and it was completely calm. Then He asked His disciples why they were so afraid, and whether they still had no faith. They were filled with great awe and said to one another, who is this, that even the wind and the waves obey Him?
