Then he gave two images. No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch pulls away from the garment and makes the tear worse. And no one pours new wine into old wineskins; if they do, the skins burst, the wine spills, and the skins are ruined. Instead, new wine is poured into new wineskins, and both are preserved. With these homely pictures Jesus taught that what he was bringing was not a repair of the old religious system but something genuinely new, which the old forms could not contain.
