Six days after teaching about His coming suffering, Jesus took Peter, James, and John up a high mountain by themselves. There He was transfigured before them: His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became dazzling white. Suddenly Moses and Elijah appeared, talking with Jesus. Peter, not knowing what to say, offered to build three shelters, one for Jesus and one each for Moses and Elijah. While he was still speaking, a bright cloud enveloped them, and a voice from the cloud said, This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to Him. When the disciples heard this, they fell facedown, terrified. But Jesus came and touched them, telling them to get up and not be afraid. When they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus. As they came down the mountain, Jesus instructed them not to tell anyone about the vision until He had risen from the dead. The event gave the three disciples a glimpse of Jesus' true glory and divine identity, confirmed by the Father's own voice, and it linked Jesus to the Law and the Prophets, represented by Moses and Elijah.
