Day 13Anxiety & Peace

Consider the Birds

Matthew 6:26

See the birds of the sky, that they don't sow, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns. Your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren't you of much more value than they?

World English Bible

Jesus points at birds.

He is talking to people with real material fear, not people with abundance who need perspective. Many of them genuinely did not know how they would eat. And his argument is not a lecture about faith. It is: go outside and look.

Birds do not farm. They have no storehouse, no savings, no plan past this afternoon. And they are fed. Not lavishly, and not without effort, since a bird works hard all day. But provision is there in the world God made, and they are held inside a system of care they did not build and do not manage.

Then the turn: are you not of much more value than they?

That is the actual question. Not can God provide, but do you believe you matter to him. Anxiety often has less to do with doubting God's ability than with quietly suspecting we are not important enough to be looked after.

And notice how ordinary the evidence is. He does not appeal to a miracle. He appeals to sparrows, which anyone could see any morning. The care of God is not hidden in rare events. It is spread across the ordinary world, so common we walk past it.

This is not a promise that nothing hard will happen. It did not promise that to the birds either. It is a promise that you are inside the care of God, and that you are worth more to him than the creatures he already feeds without fail.

Go look at one today. That is the assignment.

Talk About It Together

Family friendly day. Little ones can answer these too.

  1. Do you believe you matter to God as much as this verse says?
  2. Where have you seen God provide for you in an ordinary way?
  3. What is the fear underneath your worry about the future?

Tonight’s Challenge

Go outside and actually watch birds for two minutes. No phone. Let the verse be literal.

Prayer

Father, You feed the birds without fail and You say we are worth more to You than they are. Where we doubt that we matter, settle it in us. Thank You for ordinary provision we walk past every day. Give us what we need, and quiet our fear about the rest. Amen.
