Day 17Anxiety & Peace

You Were Made for Community

Galatians 6:2

Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

World English Bible

Anxiety isolates. That is one of the most reliable things about it.

It tells you that you are the only one like this, that people would think less of you if they knew, that you would be a burden. So you show up, say you are fine, and go home with the whole weight still on you. And the more isolated you get, the louder the fear becomes, because there is no one else in the room to say that is not true.

Paul assumes something different is normal for God's people. Bear one another's burdens. That only works if somebody knows what your burden actually is. You cannot help carry what has never been set down where anyone can see it.

So here is the encouragement of this whole series, and it is a real one, not a throwaway.

Get into a life group at your local church. A room of ordinary people who meet regularly, know your name, and notice when you are not there. Not because a small group fixes anxiety, but because being genuinely known is one of the ways God steadies people, and it is very hard to do alone. Start by going once. You do not have to tell anyone everything on the first night.

And talking to a doctor or a licensed counselor about anxiety is a good and faithful step, not a failure of faith. God gives good gifts through trained people, the same way he gives healing through medicine and rest through sleep. Using them is not going around him.

If you are in a dark place, or having thoughts of harming yourself, please tell someone today: a doctor, a counselor, a pastor, or someone you trust. In the US, you can call or text 988 anytime to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline; if you are elsewhere, your country likely has a similar free helpline.

You were never meant to carry this by yourself.

Talk About It Together

This one asks for a decision, not just a conversation.

  1. Who actually knows what you have been carrying?
  2. What holds you back from letting people in, honestly?
  3. What is one step you will take this week: a life group, a counselor, a doctor, or one honest conversation?

Tonight’s Challenge

Take one concrete step today. Send the message, make the call, or find out when your church's groups meet. One step, today.

Prayer

Father, anxiety tells us to hide and we have listened to it. Give us courage to let someone in. Lead us to people who will help carry this and let us be that for someone else. Thank You for doctors, counselors, pastors, and friends, and help us receive the help You have already provided. Amen.
