“You will keep whoever's mind is steadfast in perfect peace, because he trusts in you.”
The word behind steadfast carries the sense of leaning on something, staying put, being propped against it. A mind that has found something solid and stayed there.
An anxious mind is the opposite. It roams. It checks the news, then the symptom, then the bank balance, then the conversation from last Tuesday. It is looking for something to rest on, and none of those will hold weight, so it moves again.
The verse does not promise peace to a mind that thinks correctly or hard enough. It promises peace to a mind that stays leaned on God.
Which raises the practical question: what does your mind rest on when it is not busy? For most of us that is the honest test. The first thing you reach for in the morning. What plays when the room goes quiet. Those inputs are not neutral. A mind fed on outrage and disaster all day and asked to be peaceful at bedtime is being asked for something impossible.
This is not a call to hide from the world. It is a call to notice what you are propping your mind against, and to choose something that can hold.
And note the last three words. Because he trusts in you. Peace is not the reward for a well managed mind. It comes from the one being trusted. He keeps the mind that stays leaned on him.
Where is your mind resting today? You can move it. Gently, and probably more than once.
Talk About It Together
Be honest about your actual inputs, not your ideal ones.
- What does your mind rest on when it has nothing else to do?
- What is one input feeding your anxiety that you could reduce this week?
- What could you put in its place?

Prayer
God, our minds roam and land on things that cannot hold us. Teach us to lean on You. Show us what we are feeding ourselves and give us the will to change it. Keep our minds in Your peace, because we are trusting You. Amen.
